Micro-Point was founded as a recording-stylus manufacturer in 1966 by Arnold Schwartz. Recording styli cut grooves in master phonograph records. Master records, in turn, are used for producing conventional vinyl phonograph records.
So surprisingly, the name Micro-Point – seemingly chosen for a computer company – initially referred to a micro-stylus!
In the 1970’s, Micro-Point and Arnold ’s sister company, Micro-Acoustics Corporation, were located at 8 Westchester Plaza in Elmsford , NY . Micro-Acoustics manufactured patented phonograph cartridges and loudspeakers. The loudspeakers’ innovative features improved high-frequency dispersion by using multiple angled tweeters.
Arnold had left Sonotone in 1959 and joined CBS Laboratory as a stereophonic disc recording researcher, performing psychoacoustic studies in sound localization and proving the importance of source symmetry, ceramic microphone development and non-linear circuitry.
Arnold had also worked for University Loudspeakers on their executive staff and as an engineer. He was awarded a B. S. degree by City College of New York. He was a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, the Acoustical Society of America, and the Audio Engineering Society.
Arnold also was a highly respected award-winner within the audio industry and published numerous papers and articles on the subject.
In 1979, Edward Schwartz , son of Arnold Schwartz, became president of Micro-Point. In the early 1980’s he pioneered software that automated the manufacturing and testing of recording styli. This contributed to Micro-Point’s gaining upwards of 75% of the world market for recording styli.
As the record manufacturing business declined, Micro-Point evolved into a computer company. The first service offered was software development, using the GPIB interface, for testing audio equipment.
By 1984, Micro-Point evolved into a full-service computer company. We maintained Novell and Microsoft networks, installed accounting systems, and wrote custom software.
Providing full service was a powerful idea, allowing us to solve problems for small businesses and make them more efficient. Since we handled all aspects of computerization, we could develop complete solutions for our clients.
Today our role has evolved from being an on-site service provider to a hosting and computer services provider, with added expertise in the areas of website development and Web marketing as well as accounting systems.
As we continue through our 40th year, our many customers have come to rely on Micro-Point’s diverse and experienced specialists for a full range of essential IT and related services.
